How we work

  1. Get in touch

Call IE Electricals or send an enquiry with details of the job. Tell us what you need and where the property is.

  2. Survey and quote

We look at the job, in person or from what you send us, and confirm the scope. You get a written quote before any work starts.

  3. The work

We carry out the job to the scope agreed, working tidily and making good as we go, in line with BS 7671.

  4. Certificates and handover

Where the work is notifiable or certifiable, you receive the correct certificate. We hand over any paperwork and explain what it covers.

Certificates and reports explained

Not every job needs a certificate, and the right one depends on the work carried out. Here is what each covers.

Which certificate do you need?

Is the property rented out, being sold or bought, or lived in by you?
Is this new electrical work, or checking what is already there?
Is it a new circuit or consumer unit, or an addition to an existing circuit?

Answer the three questions and the matching document appears here.

What each certificate means
Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)
An EICR reports the condition of the fixed wiring in a property, with any faults coded. It confirms whether the installation is safe to remain in use or whether work is needed.
Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC)
An EIC is issued for new electrical installation work, such as a new circuit, a new consumer unit or a rewire. It confirms the work meets BS 7671 and is safe to use.
Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate
A Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate covers a small addition or alteration to an existing circuit, such as an extra socket. It cannot be used for a new circuit or consumer unit.
Ask us which certificate applies
If you are not sure which certificate applies, tell us what the work involves and we will confirm which one, if any, you need.

What you can expect

  • Written quotes

You get a written quote after a survey, before any work starts, so you know the scope agreed.

  • Tidy working

We work tidily and make good as we go, so the job leaves the property as we found it, aside from the work itself.

  • Certificates for notifiable work

Certificates are issued for notifiable and certifiable work, in line with Part P and BS 7671 requirements.

  • Clear communication

You are told what is planned before work starts, kept informed while it happens, and given the certificates and paperwork at handover.

Frequently asked questions

  • What areas does IE Electricals cover?

Sheffield and the districts around it are covered, along with the nearby towns of Chesterfield, Dronfield and Rotherham. A rented flat in the city centre and a commercial unit on the outskirts are handled to the same standard. Send an enquiry or call 07427 293958 to check a particular address before booking.

  • What electrical services do you provide?

IE Electricals provides nine electrical services: Electrician, Domestic Electrician, Electrical Installations, Rewiring, Electrical Testing, Electrical Certificates, Electrical Panel Building, Electrical Engineering and Electrical Contractor. Domestic and commercial jobs are covered across Sheffield and surrounding areas. Call 07427 293958 to talk through which service fits your job.

  • Are you available for both domestic and commercial work?

IE Electricals carries out both domestic and commercial electrical work across Sheffield and surrounding areas, from household jobs such as sockets and lighting to commercial installations, testing and certification. Tell us about your job when you get in touch and we will confirm the details before quoting.

  • How do I get a quote?

Getting a quote from IE Electricals starts with a call or an enquiry describing the job. We confirm the scope, by phone or a visit depending on the work, and give you a written quote before anything is booked in. No quote is given without the scope being confirmed first.

  • What happens during the initial visit?

On the initial visit, an IE Electricals electrician looks at the job in person, checks the existing wiring or installation where relevant, and confirms what the work involves. This forms the basis of the written quote. For testing or certificate work, the visit is when the inspection itself takes place.

  • Will I be given a certificate for the work carried out?

Certificates are issued depending on the work carried out by IE Electricals. New circuits, consumer unit changes and rewires receive an EIC, small additions to an existing circuit receive a Minor Works Certificate, and testing produces an EICR. Not every job is certifiable, but where it is, you receive the correct certificate.

  • How do I know if my job is notifiable?

Notifiable work under Part P typically includes new circuits, a new consumer unit and new fixed wiring in a bathroom or similar location. Like for like replacements and extending an existing circuit are usually non notifiable, though they still need to meet BS 7671. Tell IE Electricals what the job involves and we will confirm.

  • What standards does the work follow?

IE Electricals carries out all electrical work in line with BS 7671, the current UK wiring regulations standard. Notifiable work is certified through a competent person scheme or through building control, and the correct certificate, EIC, Minor Works or EICR, is issued for work that requires one.

  • How do I book an electrician?

Booking a job with IE Electricals starts with a call or an enquiry describing the work needed. Once the scope is confirmed and a written quote given, a date is arranged for the visit. Call 07427 293958 or send an enquiry with your details to get started.

  • What information should I include when I send an enquiry?

An enquiry to IE Electricals should include your name, a contact number, the address or area of the job, the service you think you need, and a short description of the work. The more detail you include, the more accurate the initial response and any written quote that follows.

  • Do you work on older properties as well as new builds?

IE Electricals works on properties of every age, from older housing with dated wiring to new builds. Older properties are more likely to need a consumer unit upgrade or rewiring, while new builds are more likely to need additional circuits or fault finding. Tell us the property's age when you enquire.

  • How can I contact IE Electricals?

IE Electricals can be contacted by phone on 07427 293958 or by sending an enquiry with details of your job. Both routes reach IE Electricals directly, so you can describe the work and get a response about the next step, whether that is a quote or arranging a visit.
